Primecut Taqueria: Good Company, But Not Quite My Taste
Sometimes the best part of a dining experience isn't necessarily what's on the plate.
I recently stopped by Primecut Taqueria with a few former coworkers/friends, and while the experience wasn't a complete bust, I found myself leaving a little underwhelmed.
The restaurant itself was clean, and I really liked the see-through kitchen. There's something enjoyable about being able to sit nearby and watch your food being prepared. The indoor space felt a little smaller, so we decided to sit outside, which I actually enjoyed. The outdoor area wraps around the restaurant, giving you the flexibility to enter and exit from outside.
There were a few things about the layout that didn't quite work for me. The menu is positioned so high that reading it felt like an exercise for my neck, and the salsa bar was in an awkward location.
The customer service was okay. There was a new girl working the counter who did a great job, but when I had additional questions, there was someone nearby who seemed much more knowledgeable. Unfortunately, she didn't step in to assist, and that interaction didn't feel as welcoming as I would have hoped.
Then came the tacos.
I ordered two carne asada tacos and one chicken carne asada taco. The carne asada was tender, but the seasoning was pretty mild. On its own, it didn't have a lot of flavor for me. Once I added the more traditional salsa, though, the taco completely changed. The salsa brought the flavor that I felt was missing.
The chicken taco, unfortunately, wasn't something I could enjoy. The chicken was extremely dry and came in large chunks. For me, that preparation didn't work in a taco. I could see that kind of chicken working better as part of something like a salad.
And then there was the price.
For what I experienced, the tacos felt pretty basic, especially considering beans and rice weren't included. I expected a little more from the overall experience for what I paid.
Would I go back? Probably not.
But here's the thing: that doesn't mean Primecut Taqueria won't be someone's favorite.
Dining is personal. What doesn't work for one person can be exactly what someone else is looking for.
For me, the tacos didn't stand out enough to make me want to return, and the experience didn't quite give me that feeling of “I have to come back.” But I was fortunate to be surrounded by good friends, and catching up with them made the visit worthwhile.
Sometimes the company really does become the best part of the meal. 🤎
