There’s something powerful about intentionally choosing rest.
My cousin and I decided to spend her birthday at I Spa in Irvine, and what started as a simple outing turned into one of the most rejuvenating experiences I’ve had in a long time. Although this wasn’t my first time visiting I
Spa, it was my first time receiving a full service, and I can confidently say it won’t be my last. I had been counting down the days like a freshman starting high school, and the experience still over delivered.
🌿 The Purpose of a Korean Spa
Korean spas, also known as jjimjilbangs, are deeply rooted in Korean culture and wellness. They’re not just about luxury, they’re about healing, detoxification, and restoration.
Traditionally, these spaces are designed to:
Improve circulation through hot and cold therapies
Detoxify the body through sweating in specialized rooms
Encourage full-body relaxation and mental clarity
Create a communal space for rest, reflection, and care
It’s not rushed. It’s not surface-level. It’s intentional care for your whole body.
✨ Before You Go: What to Know
⏰ Best Time to Go
Weekdays are your best bet, especially right when they open. We arrived around 9 AM and left around 1:30 PM. By the time we were leaving, it was crowded, so going early allows you to enjoy the space without the hustle and bustle.

🧖🏽♀️ My Experience 😝
Once we changed, we explored the spa. The atmosphere was warm but not overbearing, perfect for relaxing. My cousin and I rested, sat, and chatted quietly in the common area while some people napped, stretched, or simply gathered their thoughts.
The rooms are incredible. My favorites were the salt room and ice room, it’s a perfect balance of heat and cold. After that, it was time for our services.
The body scrub + massage was absolutely divine. She scrubbed every inch of my body, rinsed me with splashes of water that felt amazing, and then massaged me with such care that it honestly felt like love. Fresh cucumber slices were applied to my face, my hair was washed, and body oil was applied as the finishing touch.
The massage felt intentional, especially around areas of my body that have gone through surgeries, I could tell she was extra careful and considerate. It felt like more than technique; it felt like healing.
By the time we left, we were glowing inside and out. Mentally and emotionally we felt refreshed, revived, and completely renewed.
Here’s my encouragement to you…
We spend so much time on things that enhance our appearance like nails, hair, brows, but how often are we pouring into the parts of ourselves that need rest? Whether it’s a Korean spa, a massage, or simply intentional stillness… take the time to restore what you give out so freely every day.
And while I know spaces like this are often seen as something for women, I can’t help but think about how valuable it is for men too. Men carry so much, the responsibility of providing, working, leading, constantly being “on.” How often do they truly get to rest, mentally, emotionally, and physically?
A space like this offers a rare opportunity to pause, reset, and focus on wellness without expectation.
Intentional self-care isn’t just a luxury, it’s a necessity. Making space for it, for yourself or for others, is one of the most powerful ways to show up fully in life.
So grab your man or your bestie and go, and thank me later. 😉
