Shorebird – Newport Beach CA

A Solo Dining Experience Worth Dressing Up For

Located in Newport Beach, Shorebird is romantic, elegant, and perfect for date nights or celebrations, but let me tell you, it’s just as powerful solo. 💅🏽

There’s a parking garage (they validate), and the flow walking in feels smooth and organized. Immediately, you notice the intimate private dining room to the right and a beautifully designed round bar that feels like the centerpiece of the restaurant. The crowd was mature and refined definitely more grown and intentional than trendy or loud.

I was late to my 5:45 reservation, but the hostesses were warm and accommodating. I still received a beautiful table overlooking the water and boats, it was giving sunset energy, soft lighting, peaceful ambiance.

I started with a chilled Grey Goose vodka martini with a twist.

Clean. Crisp. Ice cold. So good I ordered it twice.

It paired perfectly with the dressed oysters which were fresh, generously sized, and beautifully prepared.

For my entrée, I ordered the filet mignon with mushroom risotto. The filet had the perfect sear on the outside and was tender and juicy inside. Seasoned beautifully, balanced, flavorful, and complementary to the risotto rather than overpowering it.

The risotto reminded me of Thanksgiving dressing 😍 savory, warm, comforting, with perfectly cooked mushrooms and fresh chives on top. Hearty without feeling heavy.

Christian, my server, was attentive without hovering. Polished but personable. Even complimented my fragrance when I sat down (I layer scents, so that felt like a win).

Now here’s where the evening shifted for me.

When asked about dessert, my usual instinct is to decline.

But this time, I chose differently.

I ordered the Key Lime Pie with sherbet (raspberry, I believe). I skipped the whipped cream…(not my thing) but the tart key lime paired with the chilled sherbet was the perfect ending. Bright. Balanced. Light yet indulgent.

The only downside? The restrooms felt small for a restaurant of this caliber, and the changing table was down, which slightly disrupted the otherwise elevated experience.

But overall?

Dining here solo felt empowering.

I felt grown. Confident. Feminine. At peace.

There’s something special about ordering your own martini (twice), saying yes to dessert, and realizing the value you feel isn’t dependent on who’s sitting across from you.

Final Thoughts:

• Romantic waterfront ambiance

• Excellent martinis and fresh oysters

• Perfectly cooked filet

• Solo-dining friendly

• Minor restroom critique

Would I return?

Absolutely.

And next time, I might sit at that beautiful bar and do it all over again.
